Dec. 12, 2012
PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team was picked to finish first in the Big Ten, the conference office announced on Wednesday (Dec. 12) with the release of its preseason coaches' poll and Gymnasts to Watch list. The Wolverines topped the list and were picked to win the conference.
Sophomore Stacey Ervin (Troy, Mich./Truman), a two-time 2012 NCAA All-American, and classmate Adrian de los Angeles (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) were named to the Gymnasts to Watch List.
Ervin earns a spot on the list after the pair of All-America citations after taking third on floor and fourth on vault at NCAAs last season, while de los Angeles was a U.S. National Team member after qualifying for the squad at the Winter Cup Challenge and was an All-Big Ten first team honoree in his freshman season.
The last time the Wolverines were selected as the top team in the conference by the coaches was in 2010, when then-sophomore Syque Caesar (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./ Lincoln Park Academy) was on the Preseason Watch List.
Michigan opens up the 2013 season on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago. A week later, the Wolverines open up their home season hosting Stanford on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Cliff Keen Arena.
