This will be the 24th consecutive trip to the CCHA Championship games at Joe Louis Arena for the Maize and Blue. The last time U-M did make it to The Joe for the championship games was 1989.
The four goals in the second period mark the third time U-M had scored that many goals in a single frame this year. The last time was the third period of the consolation game against Michigan State at the Great Lake Invitational.
Alex Guptill's two goals extended his point streak to nine games and his team-leading point total to 33 (14g, 19a).
Kevin Lynch has now received a point in 11 of his last 14 games. He scored the first goal tonight. It was his 10th of the season.
Luke Moffatt had three-assist night for U-M, tying his career high he had set against Notre Dame on Nov. 13, 2010.
Steve Racine is now 7-0-1 (1-SOW) since he has taken over the goalie duties for U-M.
With U-M holding WMU to three shots on net in the first period, the Wolverines held WMU to only 12 shots on net in a three-period span. U-M outshot WMU in the game, 29-23.
This was WMU's fourth loss at home this season and the first time it has lost a home weekend series.
