Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On the game ... "That was a great game for the fans. I like the way we got back in the game in the third period and it obviously could have gone either way. We needed one shot and we had that shot, but it didn't hit the net. Hats off to Western. They were a good team all year and they were a good team down here. They deserved to win, but I thought our team was right there."
On Western Michigan's program ... "Well, I think it's long overdue. They should be a good program and they have had good players and good teams and good coaches and it is good to see them down here. I remember a few years ago when Ohio State finally won the CCHA playoffs and good for them and I told them it's about time. I congratulated them in a positive way because they should be a top program too. Western is right in the heart of Michigan where there are a lot of good players and good hockey and I do not know if they just needed a change. Obviously last year something clicked and they are back here again. So good for them."
On this game being a wakeup call ... "Let's face it. We are not that good. We are not any better than anyone else, but we are not any worse than anyone else. We are right there. Whether it is a bounce of the puck or a goal post or a little bit of luck. Either way that game could have went into overtime tonight and then we could have got lucky and won just like last night."
U-M Senior Forward Luke Glendening
On their energy level ... "I thought we came out alright. I mean they got the first goal, which was unfortunate. I thought we played alright in the first period. Maybe we didn't have the jump we usually do, but I thought we hung in there."
On the five-minute power play ... "Going into the third period I thought we had a chance but that kind of opened our eyes a little bit more. Obviously, we got one. We were hoping for two, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. I thought our power play looked better tonight and that's a step in the right direction for the tournament."
On recovering from last night ... "Being in championship game we were up and ready to go. We just did not have enough gas in the tank to finish it off."
On this year's team vs. last year's team and making a run ... "I feel like this is a really close team. Maybe we do not have prolific goal scorers like we have in the past, but I feel like our team is really close and we focused on defense and I think we have a chance to make a run if we do the little things correct."
Mindset of the team after Lee Moffie's goal ... "We thought we have a legitimate chance to come back and like coach said we had that shot, but things just didn't go in."
