Michigan Head Coach Red Berenson
On the mindset of the team after Ohio State tied the game at 4-4 ... "Well, it was not good obviously. They had all the momentum in the third period, and when you have a 4-1 lead you have to play better than that. But give them credit, they came back, and they played hard. They scored on the power play, and they scored every which way that you can. We got lucky at the end to score that winning goal. We were on our heels, and I don't know whether we deserved to win the game, not in the third period, maybe in other parts of the game. But it was one of those games where maybe the best team doesn't always win."
On the defense contributing goals ... "You can see the difference it makes in a game. Our forwards aren't going to score all our goals. Obviously when the defense scores, it's a good sign, so good for them."
On the play of JT Compher ... "He's just competing hard, and he's going to the net. He's scoring hard-working goals, workmanlike goals, and I think both his goals were on rebounds tonight. But he had to get there. He had to beat someone to the loose puck and put it in. Good for him. He's just getting more confidence every game. We had a lot of players have good games, but as a team we just didn't feel good about our game."
U-M Senior Mac Bennett
On his game-winning goal ... "It was definitely a little bit of a risky play. But I have to give all the credit for that goal to Mike Chiasson. All I had to do is put my stick on the ice, and he fed me a pass through a bunch of sticks, and it found mine. Eventually it went in."
On if the team was on its heels in the third period ... "That last period is embarrassing, especially with a 4-1 lead against our rival. Giving up three goals like that, it's disappointing. Coach let us know in the locker room, and we know that too. We have to be better and when we're up on teams like that, we have to make sure we put the dagger in them."
U-M Freshman JT Compher
On his five-game point scoring streak ... "I think overall as a team we've been playing much better. We've been getting pucks to the net and burying our chances. I've found some new chemistry with my linemates Alex Guptill and Derek DeBlois. They've been playing good with me, and our power play has been clicking, so overall I think our offense has been picking up a little bit of late."
On not being satisfied despite picking up the win ... "We talked about burying teams at the end, kind of when we have them down, putting them away, and we didn't do that tonight. As Mac (Bennett) said, we're happy to get a win but really disappointed with the third period."
