Michigan fell to 53-33-1 all-time at the Great Lakes Invitational and 28-16 in GLI semifinal contests. The Wolverines fell to 0-2 all-time against Western Michigan in the GLI, with the last meeting between the two teams in the tournament coming on Dec. 28, 1986, an 8-2 win by WMU in the GLI championship game.
Michigan is 10-4-1 all-time in GLI consolation contests. The Wolverines will take on Michigan State for the second consecutive season in the GLI consolation game. Last year, the Wolverines defeated the Spartans, 5-2, on Dec. 30, 2012 at Joe Louis Arena.
Michigan suffered its second loss in outdoor hockey action in the modern era (beginning with 2001 "Cold War" game at Michigan State). U-M is 2-2-1 in outdoor games.
U-M fell to 71-33-10 in the all-time series against Western Michigan and is now 4-6 in the last 10 meetings between the two teams.
Freshman forward JT Compher scored his team-leading second shorthanded goal; he has both of U-M shorthanded goals this season. Compher leads the team with 15 points (six goals, nine assists) on the season.
Compher's goal extended a streak of Michigan freshmen recording a point in all 15 games this season.
Junior forward Travis Lynch has recorded all three of his points this season in his last four games (2g, 1a). Lynch scored in the third period of tonight's contest to knot the game at 2-2.
U-M finished the night 0-for-8 on the power play, finishing without a power-play goal for the third consecutive contest. U-M is now 2-2-1 when scoreless on the power play.
