Wohlberg, Guptill Win CCHA Player of the Week Awards

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today (Monday, Jan. 9) its Players of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8, 2012, honoring University of Michigan ice hockey forward David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) as Postgame® Offensive Player of the Week and forward Alex Guptill (Newmarket, Ontario) as Gongshow Rookie of the Week.

Wohlberg led the Wolverines with five points (2g, 3a) in two games last weekend against Lake Superior State. The 6-1, 203-pound forward posted three points (1g, 2a) in a 4-2 win on Friday night (Jan. 6) and followed that up with a two-point performance (1g, 1a) on Saturday (Jan. 7). Wohlberg is now tied for the team lead in points (21) and goals (10) through 24 games this season.

Guptill, who was also named the CCHA Rookie of the Week in mid-December, ranked second on Michigan with four points (1g, 3a) in the two games against the Lakers. The 6-3, 189-pound forward tied a season high with two assists on Friday and added two points (1g, 1a) on Saturday. Guptill is tied with Wohlberg for the team lead in goals (10) and ranks third overall in points with 20 (10g, 10a).

Michigan returns to action on Friday (Jan. 13) when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, for the first of a two-game set with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Game time is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. The Wolverines and Buckeyes then travel to Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday (Jan. 15) for the Frozen Diamond Faceoff at 5:05 p.m. The game will be held outdoors at Progressive Field, home to Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians, and will be broadcast by Fox Sports Detroit Plus.
