ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan junior defenseman Sam Piazza was named Big Ten honorable mention and one of six Sportsmanship Award honorees. The Big Ten Conference announced the ice hockey All-Big Ten teams and individual award winners on Monday (March 13) as selected by the conference's coaches and a media panel.
Piazza, tied for Michigan's No. 1 scoring defenseman this season, led the Wolverine blueliners with 14 points with six goals and eight assists in 31 games. He ranked eighth overall amongst conference defensemen with 14 points and tied for the most power-play goals (3) amongst blueliners in the Big Ten.
Michigan will begin postseason play on Thursday (March 16) at 8 p.m., when the Wolverines take on Penn State in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
