ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan ice hockey junior forward Alex Guptill (Newmarket, Ontario) signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars on Thursday (March 27). Guptill will forgo his senior season at Michigan.
A third-round selection (77th overall) by Dallas in the 2010 NHL Draft, Guptill finishes his Michigan career with 94 points (44G, 50A) in 110 games, including 13 power-play goals and nine game-winning goals.
Guptill, an All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2013-14, finished third on the team with 25 points (13G, 12A) in 31 games for the Wolverines. Guptill recorded 16 points (7G, 9A) in 17 Big Ten Conference games, finishing sixth in the league at 0.94 points per game. Guptill led the team in scoring in each of his first two seasons at Michigan. In 2012-13, he finished the season with a career-best 36 points (16G, 20A) in 38 games. In his freshman year, Guptill recorded 33 points (16G, 17A) in 41 games and was named CCHA Rookie of the Year.
Guptill is the fourth member of the 2013-14 team to sign a professional contract this week. Yesterday, senior defenseman Mac Bennett (Narragansett, R.I.) signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Montreal Canadiens, and junior forward Phil Di Giuseppe (Maple, Ontario) signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. On Monday, senior forward Luke Moffatt (Paradise Valley, Arizona) signed an Amateur Try Out agreement with the Lake Erie Monsters (AHL).
