Hunwick Soaks It All In (BlueJackets.com)
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Two University of Michigan seniors signed contracts with National Hockey League teams on Wednesday (March 28), as goaltender Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Heights, Mich.) has signed an Amateur Tryout Contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets and defenseman Greg Pateryn (Sterling Heights, Mich.) signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
Hunwick will dress for the Blue Jackets tonight in their home game against the Detroit Red Wings and serve as the back-up goaltender. Pateryn's deal kicks into effect beginning with the 2012-13 season.
Hunwick appeared in 40 games this season for Michigan, posting a 24-13-3 record with five shutouts, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. He earned a 54-24-7 mark with 10 shutouts, a 2.06 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage in 87 career games in Maize and Blue. Hunwick leaves Michigan as the program's all-time leader in GAA and save percentage.
Pateryn earned 15 points (2g, 13a) and a team-high 58 blocks in 41 games during his senior season in Ann Arbor. In 142 career games, Pateryn has tallied 43 points (6g, 37a) for the Wolverines.
