ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team honored its six seniors as well as the accomplishments of the 2016-17 team at the annual Dekers Blue Line Club banquet, held Sunday afternoon (April 2) at the Junge Family Champions Center.
Freshman forward Will Lockwood and junior defenseman Sam Piazza each earned two of the eight team awards. Lockwood garnered the Hal Downes Trophy as the team's most valuable player and the Dekers Club Award as Michigan's top rookie, while Piazza was named this year's recipient of the Howard Colby Award for sportsmanship and earned the Carl Isaacson Trophy as the team's best student-athlete for the second consecutive year.
Junior defenseman Joseph Cecconi earned the Vic Heyliger Award as Michigan's most outstanding defenseman, while senior forward Evan Allen was honored with the Alton D. Simms Award as the team's most improved player.
Freshman forward Jake Slaker took home the Doc Losh Trophy as the team's scoring leader, and senior netminder Zach Nagelvoort rounded out the night by earning the Joseph E. Barss Award as U-M's true team player.
