FARGO, N.D.-- A trio of futureUniversity of Michigan ice hockey forwards -- Chris Brown(Flower Mound, Texas), Kevin Lynch(Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and A.J. Treais(Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) -- added gold medals to their resumes with a 5-0 USA victory over Russia in the IIHF World Under-18 Championship game on Sunday (April 19). The win marked USA Hockey's third Under-18 world championship title in five years.
Brown scored USA's fourth goal of the title game and notched a secondary assist on USA's second marker in the victory. He posted 4-3-7 totals, averaging a point per game in the tournament, and finished with a +6. Brown scored the gamewinner against Finland on April 11 in the preliminary round.
Lynch registered an assist on USA's second goal in the championship game. He posted a 5-5-10 line in seven games during the tournament, tied for second on the team. His five goals, including the gamewinner versus Slovakia, also ranked second among USA players. Lynch finished with a +9, which tiedfor tops onthe USA team and for second in the tournament. The coaches named Lynch one of USA's top three players during the competition.
Treais ranked second on the team, winning 60.48 percentof his faceoffsin USA's seven games. He posted a goal in back-to-back games and completed the international tournament with a +2.
Brown, Lynch and Treais spent the 2008-09 season with the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18 team. During the regular season, Brown registered 15-13-28 totals, including nine power-play goals. In 54 games, Lynch posted 18 markers and 19 assists, while Treais had 17 tallies and a team-leading 28 assists in 48 games this season.
