Sept. 27, 2010
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team will enter the 2010-11 season as the No. 4-ranked team in the country, according to Monday's (Sept. 27) preseason USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll. U-M concluded last season as the No. 8-ranked team in the same poll. The Wolverines return 19 letterwinners, including their top five scorers and both starting goalies, from the 2009-10 squad that won the CCHA Tournament and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Also announced on Sept. 27 was the television schedule for the Maize and Blue. U-M will be featured on at least 20 telecasts during the regular season. "The Big Chill at the Big House" presented by Arby's will be broadcast live in high definition by FS Detroit on Dec. 3. For viewers outside of the FS Detroit footprint, the Big Ten Network will distribute the game across the country. Additionally, FS Detroit will show five other games, all in HD, with the potential for a sixth game should U-M reach the Great Lakes Invitational championship game on Dec. 30.
Besides The Big Chill at the Big House, the Big Ten Network is scheduled to carry five more games -- one vs. Minnesota on Nov. 28, one vs. Michigan State on Jan. 7 and three vs. Ohio State, Dec. 3 and Feb. 11-12.
CBS College Sports Network has a pair of U-M games -- vs. Ferris State on Jan. 14 and at Miami on Feb. 4.
Lastly, Comcast will broadcast seven games to Comcast Cable subscribers in the state of Michigan, beginning with U-M's season opener against Mercyhurst on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Thirteen of Michigan's 17 home games will be on TV, while seven of its 17 road games will also be available.
