Four Players Named to Preseason All-CCHA Teams

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) announced today (Tuesday, Oct. 2) that University of Michigan junior defenseman Jon Merrill (Brighton, Mich.) has been named to the Preseason All-CCHA First Team. Additionally, sophomore forward Alex Guptill (Newmarket, Ontario) and senior defenseman Lee Moffie (Wallingford, Conn.) were named Preseason All-CCHA Second Team. Senior forward A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) is listed as an honorable mention.

Merrill earned 11 points (2g, 9a) in 19 games during his sophomore campaign in 2011-12, posting four multiple-point games and scoring his first career postseason goal in the CCHA semifinals on March 16 vs. Bowling Green. This marks the second straight year that Merrill has been named to the Preseason All-CCHA First Team.

Guptill tied for the team high in goals with 16 and added 33 points during his freshman season, en route to winning the CCHA Rookie of the Year and being named to the 2012 All-CCHA Rookie Team. He was named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for January and tallied points in a season-best seven straight games (5g, 6a) from Jan. 6-Feb. 3.

Moffie led all Michigan defensemen in 2011-12 with 32 points (7g, 25a) and led the Wolverines in assists. He posted eight multiple-point games and was named to the All-CCHA Tournament team. Moffie earned points in a career-best six consecutive games (3g, 6a) from Feb. 3-Feb. 18.

Treais, who was named team captain for 2012-13, record a career-high 32 points (15g, 17a) in 40 games last season. He tied for third on the team in points and second in goals and assists while tallying nine multiple-point games.

The Wolverines open their exhibition schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 9, vs. the University of Windsor at 7:35 p.m. at Yost Ice Arena. Michigan kicks off its 2012-13 regular-season campaign with a two-game set against the Rochester Institute of Technology Oct. 11-12.
