ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan will host a 2013 NCAA Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich., the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee announced today (Wednesday, Oct. 5). The four regionals for the 2013 NCAA Championship will take place March 29-31, 2013.
Michigan will play host to the West Regional, which will be held at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. It will mark the seventh time that Van Andel Arena will host regional competition, the last of which was in 2009.
This will mark the sixth time that Michigan will host NCAA Tournament action and the first time away from Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines hosted tournament games in 1977 and 1991 and held the West Regional in 1998 and 2002. Yost Ice Arena also played host to the 2003 Midwest Regional, the first year that the tournament expanded to 16 teams and four regional sites.
Additionally, the 2013 East Regional will take place at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. (hosted by Brown University), the Northeast Regional will be held at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. (hosted by the University of New Hampshire), and the Midwest Regional will be played at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio (hosted by Bowling Green State University).
Michigan returns to action on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 7-8) with a two-game series against the Bentley Falcons. Game time for both contests is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at Yost Ice Arena.
