ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey sophomore forward Andrew Copp (Ann Arbor, Mich./Skyline High School) was named today (Tuesday, Oct. 15) as one of the Big Ten's Three Stars for the week ending Oct. 13.
Each week throughout the 2013-14 season, the Big Ten will name a First Star, Second Star and Third Star to honor top individual performers from across the conference. Copp was awarded First Star honors.
Copp was Michigan's leading scorer last week with five points (two goals, three assists) in the Wolverines' first two games of the season against No. 4 Boston College (Oct. 10) and RIT (Oct. 12). He recorded a new career high with three points (one goal, two assists), including the game-winning goal in the second period of Michigan's season-opening 3-1 win over BC at Yost Ice Arena. Copp added a goal and an assist two days later in a 7-4 road win over RIT.
The 6-1, 201-pound forward leads the Big Ten in scoring through the first weekend of the regular season. Dating back to Dec. 15, 2012, Copp has recorded 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) over his last 26 games.
Michigan returns to action on Friday (Oct. 18) at No. 13 New Hampshire for the first of two games against the Wildcats. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 19).
