ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey freshman forward Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Mich./Pioneer High School) was named today (Tuesday, Oct. 22) as one of the Big Ten's Three Stars for the week ending Oct. 20.
Motte earned Second Star honors, his first career Big Ten weekly award, after two impressive games at New Hampshire last weekend.
Motte scored Michigan's lone goal in a 1-1 tie at UNH on Friday night (Oct. 18), his first career power-play goal. On Saturday night (Oct. 19), Motte scored the overtime game-winning goal to lift the Wolverines to a 3-2 victory.
The 5-10, 185-pound forward has recorded goals in three straight games, and is one of five freshmen in the nation with three or more goals this season.
Michigan sophomore forward Andrew Copp (Ann Arbor, Mich./Skyline High School) was honored last week with the conference's First Star. The Wolverines are one of two Big Ten schools to have student-athletes honored in both weeks this season.
Fourth-ranked Michigan returns home this weekend to welcome a pair of Bay State foes in No. 14 Boston University (Friday, Oct. 25) and UMass-Lowell (Saturday, Oct. 26). Both games will start at 7 p.m.
