ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey forward JT Compher (Northbrook, Ill.) and senior captain Mac Bennett (Narragansett, R.I.) were named today (Tuesday, Dec. 3) as two of the Big Ten's Three Stars of the Week.
Compher earned Big Ten Second Star of the Week, his first conference weekly honor, after an outstanding weekend for the Wolverines. He recorded three goals and an assist in two games to extend his team best point streak to five games. Compher leads Michigan with 14 points (5g, 9a) on the season.
On Friday night (Nov. 29) against Ohio State, Compher had a goal and an assist to help the Wolverines earn a 4-3 overtime win in the Big Ten opener for both teams. On Monday night (Dec. 2) at Ohio State, he recorded his first career multiple goal game to help U-M earn the home-and-home series sweep with a 5-4 win over the Buckeyes. Compher is tied for the lead among Big Ten freshmen in scoring with 14 points and nine assists.
Bennett collected Big Ten Third Star of the Week after leading Michigan with a plus-6 rating on the weekend. He was a factor in both game-winning goals for Michigan against the Buckeyes.
On Friday night, Bennett recorded the primary assist on Andrew Copp's (Ann Arbor, Mich.) OT game-winner with a stretch pass to set up Copp's breakaway. On Monday night, Bennett scored the game-winner himself with 1:35 to play in the third period, scoring on a backdoor play off a pass from Mike Chiasson (Henderson, Nev.).
U-M will host the U.S. NTDP Under-18 program in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m. on Thursday night (Dec. 5) at Yost Ice Arena.
