ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today (Monday, Dec. 12) its Players of the Week for the week ending Dec. 11, 2011, honoring University of Michigan ice hockey freshman Alex Guptill (Newmarket, Ontario) as the Gongshow Rookie of the Week. Guptill is the second Wolverine this season to garner the honor, following Phil Di Giuseppe (Maple, Ontario), who captured the award in late October.
Guptill posted three points (1g, 2a) in two games against Michigan State last weekend, scoring one goal on Friday night (Dec. 9) and adding two assists on Saturday (Dec. 10). He finished the series with a plus-1 rating and five shots on goal to go along with his three points. Guptill has earned points in three straight games (2g, 2a) and in five of the last seven (5g, 3a).
The 6-3, 189-pound forward leads the team in goals (nine) and is tied for second on the club with 15 points (9g, 6a) in 20 games this season. He is tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals and ranks second with two power-play tallies.
Michigan returns to action on Thursday (Dec. 29) against Boston College at the Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, Mich. Game time is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. inside Joe Louis Arena.
