ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey freshman goaltender Zach Nagelvoort (Holland, Mich.) was named today (Tuesday, Dec. 17) as Big Ten First Star of the Week. Nagelvoort has been honored four times with Big Ten weekly awards this season (10/27, 11/5, 11/26 and 12/17) -- twice as Big Ten First Star of the Week.
Nagelvoort had another quality start in net against No. 4 Ferris State last week, stopping 29 of 31 shots to help No. 3 Michigan earn a 2-2 tie (2-1 shootout win). He was at his best during the shootout, allowing just one goal on seven shootout attempts.
Nagelvoort is second in the nation with a 1.67 goals-against average and is fourth with a .944 save percentage. He has allowed two goals or less in eight of 10 appearances this season.
The Wolverines return to game action on Friday, Dec. 27, vs. Western Michigan when they kick off the Great Lakes Invitational at Detroit's Comerica Park. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m.
