HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Despite a school-record four goals from freshman Mike Hernandez (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) and a quartet of assists from classmate Kyle Jackson (Sarnia, Ontario/The Hill School), the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team fell to the High Point Panthers by a 13-10 margin Wednesday (March 6) at High Point's Vert Stadium.

The Wolverines led 3-2 after sophomore Mike Francia (Wilton, Conn./Villanova) scored his first U-M goal on Jackson's first assist of the night at the 8:36 mark of the first quarter. Michigan knotted the contest at the 10:44 mark of the second with a score from Hernandez, and re-took the lead, 6-5, on a score from Jackson with 9:26 left in the second.

Michigan trailed 7-6 after the first half of action and a 3-0 run gave the Panthers a 9-6 lead five minutes into the third quarter. Hernandez struck again with 8:06 left in the game to bring U-M within two scores at 10-8, but the Panthers outscored U-M, 3-2, the rest of the contest.

HP's Dan Lomas notched six goals to complement four for Matt Thistle. High Point outshot the Wolverines, 41-33, while Michigan was 14-of-22 on clears but lost the ground ball battle, 41-26.

Freshman faceoff man Brad Lott (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) went 13-of-26 at the X, while freshman goalie Gerald Logan (Sachem, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) continued his hot streak with 16 saves on the night. Lott also led the team in ground balls with five, while Hernandez and Jackson had 10 shots apiece. Senior J.D. Johnson (Malibu, Calif./Loyola) caused a team-high two turnovers.

U-M will finish off its spring break trip Saturday (March 9), facing Hobart in Geneva, N.Y. The ECAC matchup is slated for a 1 p.m. start from Boswell Field.
