ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's lacrosse team begins its 2014 season on Saturday (Feb. 1), hosting the Marquette Golden Eagles as well as the Denison Big Red in preseason exhibition games inside Oosterbaan Field House.
The matchup against Marquette, which is now in its second season as a Division I program, will commence at 1 p.m., followed by Division III member Denison taking on the Golden Eagles at 3:15 p.m. U-M will then take on the Big Red at 4:30 p.m. in the final contest of the day.
The Wolverines return virtually all of its offense from a year ago, losing only midfielder Willie Steenland, who scored one goal last season. The offense will be led by a pair of All-ECAC Rookie Team members in Kyle Jackson (Sarnia,Ontario/The Hill School), who tallied 17 goals and nine assists in 2013, and Mike Hernandez (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), who potted 12 goals and nine assists, as well as graduate student midfielder Thomas Paras (Lakeland, Ohio/St. Ignatius), who scored 13 goals and dished out six assists as a senior. The attack unit will be guided by a pair of junior and three-years starters in Will Meter (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) and David McCormack (Terrace Park, Ohio/Mariemont). Meter notched 10 goals and five helpers in 2013, while McCormack netted 11 goals and dished out an assist.
Defensively, the Wolverines will look to replace their top close defender in Rob Healy (15 ground balls.) as well as 2013 All-ECAC Rookie Team goalie Gerald Logan (Shoreham, N.Y./The Hotchkiss School), who is out for the year due to a shoulder injury.
U-M also returns its main faceoff man from a year ago in sophomore Brad Lott (Louisville, Ky./Trinity), who went 98-of-208 (47 percent) at the dot as a true freshman, with 18 ground balls.
