CENTERVILLE, Mass. -- University of Michigan men's lacrosse players Ian King (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) and Chris Walker (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) have been named ECAC Rookie and Defensive Player of the week, respectively, for U-M's 1-1 week, highlighted by an 11-9 win over Furman on March 8.
Walker, a close defender, scooped up 10 ground balls and caused three turnovers across two games for the Wolverines. The highlight came against the Paladins, as he collected five ground balls and caused a trio of turnovers. He becomes the second Wolverine to receive the award in as many weeks, as teammate Mack Gembis (Birmingham, Mich./Cranbrook Kingswood) took home the honor last week.
King, who leads the team in goals with 16 and is No. 4 in the ECAC with 2.29 goals per contest, takes home the honor after collecting back-to-back hat tricks against High Point and Furman. He tallied 18 shots, and two of his six goals were of the man-up variety.
This marks the second time Michigan has had multiple ECAC honorees in one week, as the Wolverines previously accomplished the feat on May 3.
U-M opens ECAC play on Saturday (March 15) in Louisville, Ky., taking on the Bellarmine Knights at 1 p.m.
