Yealy Earns Pair of MVP Awards, Healy Trio of Honors at Team Banquet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior attackman Trevor Yealy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) earned team Most Valuable Player and Offensive MVP, and senior Rob Healy (Birmingham, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) earned Defensive MVP, Most Improved Player and Weight Room Warrior at the University of Michigan men's lacrosse team's inaugural banquet on Thursday (April 26) at the Junge Family Champions Center.

Yealy leads the Wolverines in goals (24) and points (25) this season. Healey has been a constant performer as the squad's No. 1 close defender after making the transition from defensive midfielder a season ago to home defense and has 17 ground balls on the season after marking the opposing squad's primary attackman.

Additional awards saw senior long stick midfielder Austin Swaney (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) take home the Brekan Kohlitz award, presented to the top specialist on the squad. Junior defenseman J.D. Johnson (Malibu, Calif./Loyola) earned the team's Wolverine Excellence honor for exemplifying integrity, appreciation, motivation, passion, respect, opportunity, unity and diligence. Freshman attacker David McCormack (Terrace Park, Ohio/Mariemont) shared the Most Improved Player Award after walking on to the squad and earning duties on the first line attack unit.

Rookie netminder Emil Weiss (Cary, N.C./Apex) earned the team's Freshman of the Year award, while fifth-year senior Brian Greiner (Grosse Point Farms, Mich./Grosse Point South) took home the team's Spirit Award.

Junior Sean Sutton (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) shared the Weight Room Warrior Award, and was named the team's Unsung Hero. Freshman Andrew Portnoy (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) closed out the individual honors with the Academic Leader and Best Award, given to the squad's grade-point average leader.

The Wolverines close out the 2012 season Saturday (May 5) as the squad travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels, who are currently ranked No. 4. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
