Men's Soccer to Take on Pair of Nationally Ranked Opponents
Former Providence College standout goalkeeper Jhojan Obando is entering his second season on the staff of his former collegiate head coach in the position of volunteer assistant coach.
Obando, who started 42 career matches for the Friars under the guidance of head man Chaka Daley, will work exclusively with the squad's goalkeepers.
He was one of four goalkeepers invited to the 2012 adidas MLS Player Combine and most recently played for the Des Moines Menace in the Premier Development League.
Obando played in 44 career matches and made 42 starts in goal at Providence, helping the Friars to a 24-14-4 record and recorded 13 clean sheets over that stretch. In 2010, Obando helped the Friars to the championship game of the Big East Tournament and was named to the all-tournament team.
He was part of three Providence teams that made the NCAA Tournament. During the last two seasons, the Friars hosted an NCAA Tournament first-round match for the first times in school history, and advanced to the second round on each occasion.
