ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team downed preseason No. 14 Louisville 1-0 on Saturday (Aug. 23) at U-M Soccer Stadium. A score from freshman forward Ahinga Selemani (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) in the 28th minute proved to be the difference combined with solid goalkeeping from the duo of freshman Evan Louro (South River, N.J./St. Joseph Vianney) and senior Adam Grinwis (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills),
The match served as Michigan's final exhibition match prior to the season opener against Florida International on Friday (Aug. 29) at 4 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The first and lone goal of the match came at the 27:58 mark as Selemani took a through ball from senior Marcos Ugarte (Providence, R.I./Providence) 25 yards out. The feed slithered past a Cardinal defender, and Selemani was able to ward off another Cardinal to slip the ensuing shot past UL goalkeeper Joachim Ball.
The physical affair featured six cautions (four for U-M, two for Louisville), as well as 28 fouls between the two sides.
Selemani, sophomores Colin McAtee (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) and William Mellors-Blair (Nottingham, England/Georgia State) each had two shots apiece for the Wolverines. U-M was outshot in the match by a 12-7 count.
Louro and Grinwis combined for the clean sheet in net, making a pair of stops apiece in the victorious effort.
