FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Senior Fabio Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/South Kent School (Conn.)) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team has been selected to take part in the 2014 adidas MLS Player Combine, to be held Jan. 9-14 at Central Broward Regional Park in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Pereira becomes the ninth Michigan player to participate in the MLS pre-draft combine and second in the last two seasons as Kofi Opare earned an invite last season.
Pereira ended his Michigan career this past fall as the all-time U-M career lead in shots with 194, and was No. 2 in assists with 22, No. 8 in total points (48) and No. 9 in goals (13). He also made five penalty kicks in his career, which ranks him No. 2 in the program records. He was a 2013 Big Ten Watch List member and the No. 10 player in the NCAA, according to TopDrawerSoccer.com at the beginning of the season. In 2011, he was named the team's offense MVP and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2010.
The players invited will be divided into four squads led by collegiate coaches and select youth coaches. Matches will be played as doubleheaders on Jan. 10, 12 and 14.
The 2014 MLS SuperDraft will be help for the ninth consecutive year in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches of American (NSCAA) Convention and will take place on Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott in Philadelphia. The draft, which comprises of four rounds and 76 overall selections, will commence at noon.
