ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team announced its 2013 slate today (Thursday, May 9). U-M begins its campaign at home on Friday, Aug. 30, against Loyola-Chicago at 3:30 p.m. from U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines, led by second-year head coach Chaka Daley, host a loaded 10-match home schedule, featuring four top-15 squads from 2012, including defending NCAA champion Indiana. Overall, U-M will face eight teams who earned trips to last season's NCAA Tournament.
Following the clash against the Wolves, U-M will host South Florida on Friday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. followed by a matchup against Marquette Friday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. After trips to Notre Dame (Sept. 17) and West Virginia (Sept. 21), U-M opens its home Big Ten slate against Northwestern on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.
After an Oct. 2 home contest against Western Michigan at 7 p.m., U-M will travel to Ohio State for a matchup with the Buckeyes Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. from Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. U-M continues the Big Ten road swing with a match against Penn State on Friday, Oct. 11, in State College.
U-M then begins a five-match homestand that features a trio of matches against top-10 programs, beginning with the hosting of the Creighton Blue Jays on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. and will follow with a meeting against the Wisconsin Badgers Sunday, Oct. 20, at noon. The Maize and Blue will host the defending NCAA champions in the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. and will look to avenge its second-round NCAA Tournament loss from a year ago against the Akron Zips on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. The home season is closed out by a matchup against the Valparaiso Crusaders on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m.
The 2013 regular season will close out with the annual Battle for Big Bear against rival Michigan State on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. in East Lansing.
Last fall, Daley led the Wolverines to a six-win turnaround and 11-10-1 overall record, a berth in the Big Ten championship game and an NCAA Tournament victory. The squad returns 2012 All-Big Ten first team midfielder Tyler Arnone, All-Big Ten second team goalkeeper Adam Grinwis, All-Big Ten Freshman honoree James Murphy and 2011-12 leading goal scorer Fabio Villas Boas Pereira.
