ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team, entering the second year of the Chaka Daley era, was chosen to finish fourth in the annual Big Ten preseason coaches' poll, the conference announced Wednesday (Aug. 21). Additionally, senior midfielder Fabio Villas Boas Pereira (Sao Paolo, Brazil/South Kent School [Conn.]), junior midfielder Tyler Arnone (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville), and junior goalkeeper Adam Grinwis (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills) were named to the preseason Big Ten Players to Watch list.

Defending NCAA champion Indiana tops the poll, followed by Michigan State and Northwestern. Penn State comes in at No. 5, while Wisconsin is No. 6. Ohio State marks the bottom of the poll at No. 7.

Arnone, who makes the list for the second consecutive year, returns after becoming a mainstay in U-M's midfield last season, earning All-Big Ten first team honors. He was second on the team in points (16), goals (5) and assists (6) last season.

Grinwis, who earned a spot on the Big Ten second team last season, ranked No. 8 nationally in total saves with 92. He also compiled six clean sheets in his second full season as U-M's choice goalkeeper. Additionally, he boasted a 1.11 goals-against average and allowed 24 goals during the 2012 season.

Pereira, who has led the team in scoring each of the last two seasons, enters the season with 18 career assists, 10 behind Adam Bruh's (2002-05) school record of 28. A year ago, he ranked second in the Big Ten with eight helpers, fourth in points (20), and fifth in goals (6).

Michigan, ranked as high as No. 15 in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com, opens up the 2013 season against Loyola-Chicago on Friday (Aug. 30) at 4 p.m. inside the U-M Soccer Stadium.
