Saad Tabbed Rookie of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman forward Soony Saad (Dearborn, Mich./Dearborn) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team was named Rookie of the Year for his outstanding freshman campaign during which he set program records for goals (19) and points (43). Saad is the first Wolverine to be named the website's Rookie of the Year. He has also been honored as a member of the Team of the Week three times this season.

Saad, who is second in the nation in goals, broke U-M's seven-year-old single-season goals record and has also set new single-season records in points and shots with 143. Saad's 19 goals lead all freshmen nationally and he is the only freshman to be ranked in the top five nationally in points and goals.

Saad led the Wolverines to their first-ever Big Ten Tournament title by scoring a goal in each game en route to the championship, including two game-winners.

The rookie forward has earned numerous accolades this season, including being named All-Big Ten First Team, Big Ten Freshman of the Year and the Big Ten Tournament's top offensive player. Additionally, Saad became the seventh player in program history to record a hat trick in U-M's 3-2 win over Kentucky on Sept. 22. He was also named Big Ten Player of the Week twice during his rookie season.

The Wolverines will next face No. 3 Maryland in the NCAA Elite Eight with a spot in the 2010 College Cup on the line. The match will kick off on Saturday (Dec. 4) at 1 p.m. at Ludwig Field in College Park, Md. Fans can catch a live webcast of the game on
