ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team received four more NCAA 'B' cuts to close out the Michigan First Chance Meet on Sunday (Feb. 17) at Canham Natatorium. Freshman Matt McNamara (Huntington Woods, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) had two of them, one in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.56) and one in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.08).

Senior Connor McCarroll (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) started the meet off with a win in the 200-yard backstroke, picking up an NCAA 'B' time in the process (1:45.03). Freshmen Will Raynor (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) and Connor Herman (Atlanta, Ga./Marist) were second (1:47.00) and third (1:48.29), respectively.

The Wolverines went 1-2-3 in the next race, as well. Freshman Matt Zimmerman (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) took first (45.29), followed by sophomore/freshman Jeremy Raisky (Birmingham, Mich./Berkley) in second (45.45) and sophomore Daniel Miller (Lambertville, Mich./St. Francis de Sales) in third (45.82).

Four U-M swimmers took to the pool for the 1,650-yard freestyle, with senior Andrew Novakoff (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Pine Crest) winning the race (15:34.81).

Freshman Paul Corbae (Madison, Wis./Westlake) swam the 200-yard breaststroke twice on Sunday. He swam the race in 1:57.90 in the morning session, which would have been an NCAA 'B' cut, but he was disqualified. He returned in the afternoon's time trials session, finishing in 1:58.61, which surpassed the NCAA provisional-qualifying standard.

Over in the diving well, six Michigan divers dove off the one-meter board. The highest finisher was sophomore Kevin Bain (Northville, Mich./Northville), who took third (277.35).

Michigan now readies for the 2013 Big Ten Championships, to be held Feb. 27-March 2 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. Preliminaries will be at 11 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m. each day.
