Faerber's Win Highlights Divers' Trip to Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- A group of divers from the University of Michigan men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped off a three-day appearance at the Pitt Invite today (Sunday, Nov. 24) at Joe C. Trees Pool. Junior Carey Chen (Vancouver, British Columbia/University Hill Secondary) placed first in two events on the women's side, and the men got one win from Timothy Faerber (Potomac, Md./Churchill).

Chen took first from one meter on Friday (Nov. 22) and first from three meters on Saturday (Nov. 23), scoring 281.25 and 288.15, respectively.

In addition to Chen, two women made it to the finals of the one-meter competition and a trio from three meters. Sophomore Sarah Kamstra (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West) took second from one meter (274.85) and third from three meters (280.30), while sophomore Elena Ghormley (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and junior Nicole Honey (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Herricks) went 5-6 from three meters.

Both teams competed from the platform for the first time this season on Sunday (Nov. 24). The Michigan men finished 3-4-5-6-7, with Faerber tops among U-M men (284.84). He was followed by senior James Ross (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) in fourth with a score of 281.65. Ross alsoplaced third from three meters and fourth from one meter.

The top scorer for the Michigan women from the platform was Honey, who took second place with a score 224.75. Junior Marina Nazario (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) placed fourth with a score of 212.90.

The Michigan divers are off until the New Year for when they will compete during the annual team training trip at the Mike Pepe Invitational on Jan. 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
