PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Fresh off its fourth straight title at the Orange Bowl Classic to wrap up its annual training trip, three members of the top-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team received Big Ten weekly honors, the conference office announced Tuesday (Jan. 8).
Senior Sean Fletcher (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was named Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week, junior James Ross (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) was named Big Ten Diver of the Week and freshman Dylan Bosch (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College, Sandton) was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Fletcher posted first-place finishes in three events at the Orange Bowl Classic. He won the 50-meter butterfly (24.10) and the 50-meter backstroke (25.78). Fletcher also aided to a win in the 200-meter medley relay (1:37.85). All three times were new meet records. It is the first weekly honor of his career.
Ross gets the Diver of the Week honor for the first time in his career after taking first place on one-meter (321.65) at the Mike Pepe Invitational, also held last Thursday (Jan. 3) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. His score was an NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark and is also a new career high.
Bosch receives the honor for a fifth time this season. He took second in the 100-meter butterfly (55.15), third in the 200-meter individual medley (2:06.75) and fourth in the 50-meter butterfly (25.36).
The Wolverines return to Ann Arbor this weekend for a pair of dual meets inside Canham Natatorium. They will face Eastern Michigan on Friday, Jan. 11, at 5:30 p.m. and Big Ten foe Purdue on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m.
