ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore Dylan Bosch (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College, Sandton) of the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday (Jan. 14) by the conference office.
He receives the weekly honor for the second time this season (also: Dec. 10). Three others have also picked up Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors this season, including Richard Funk (Oct. 29), John Wojciechowski (Oct. 15) and Bruno Ortiz (Oct. 1, Jan. 7).
Bosch was a key contributor in helping the Wolverines win two road dual meets last weekend. Against Purdue (Jan. 10), he finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:01.77) and took third in the 400-yard individual medley (3:55.29) while helping the 400-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish (3:15.18). The next day against Northwestern (Jan. 11), Bosch won three events -- the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.58), the 100-yard butterfly (48.26) and the 200-yard IM (1:48.96) -- while also swimming on the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:28.36).
Bosch ranks first in the Big Ten in four events -- the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard IM and 400-yard IM -- and is ranked among the top 10 nationally in all four of those events. Bosch leads the team with seven NCAA 'A' or 'B' cuts (six individual events) and last month at the U.S. Winter National Championships, he re-set his own Big Ten and University of Michigan records in the 200-yard butterfly.
He is one of nine U-M student-athletes slated to compete at the SMU Classic this weekend (Friday-Saturday, Jan. 17-18) in Dallas, Texas. The meet will begin at 7:30 p.m. CST both days.
