ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head swimming coach Mike Bottom announced Wednesday (Jan. 29) an unprecedented plan to bring the world's swimming community closer to U-M's men's and women's teams during Saturday's (Feb. 1) meet at Ohio State through live "Aquatics Analysis" from the coaches on the program's Twitter account, @umichswimdive.
Throughout the meet, the Michigan coaching staff, led by Bottom, the 2013 CSCAA Coach of the Year, will provide running commentary and real-time reactions to the day's events beginning at 11 a.m. EST. The men's meet features a matchup of top-10 teams with No. 1 Michigan and No. 9 Ohio State, while the women's meet pits No. 21 Michigan against No. 19 Ohio State and Nebraska.
"Here at Michigan, we want to try new things and we feel this is a unique and different way to let the swimming community become a part of our team," Bottom said. "We want the fans that interact with us to feel like they are on deck with us during what is promised to be a very fast, ultra-competitive meet."
Michigan fans and swimming fans across the world will feel like they are a part of the team as chatter and photos from the deck are tweeted live in real time from @umichswimdive. Use the hashtag #UMDeckPass to participate and follow in on the conversation.
Bottom and his staff are known for innovative tactics and a spirited enthusiasm that has led to multiple achievements in the pool (including the 2013 national championship and three consecutive Big Ten championships on the men's side), as well as unique and different takes on the sport of swimming (including the Michigan Water Carnival and a 20-yard meet against Eastern Michigan in Jan. 2013).
