ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's swimming and diving head coach Mike Bottom announced the addition of prep swimmer Chris Klein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) to the team's 2013-14 recruiting class.
"We are so excited about Chris Klein," Bottom said. "We feel that of all the local talent, Chris has the most potential to explode. He's the perfect fit for the University of Michigan."
Klein, an Ann Arbor native, attends Pioneer High School and swims for Club Wolverine. He is ranked as the fourth-best swimmer in the state of Michigan this year by CollegeSwimming.com. Klein, who is projected to swim in multiple events at Michigan, swam two events at the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships, taking 20th in the 200-meter individual medley and also swimming the 200-meter freestyle. At the 2012 MHSAA Boys D-I Swim & Dive Championships, Klein finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fourth in the 200-yard IM. He is also an All-American and serves as Pioneer's team captain this season as a senior.
Klein is the 10th member of the Wolverines' 2013-14 recruiting class, joining prior signees Julian Ballestas (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit), Jason Chen (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley), Colin Eaton (Gresham, Ore./Corbett), Jackson Goethe (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow), Bryan Hughes (Modesto, Calif./Amador Valley), Jack Mangan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), Cameron Stitt (Portland, Ore./Sunset), Vinny Tafuto (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) and Ryan O'Donnell (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central).
