Canadian Summer Nationals (July 20-22, Edmonton, Canada)
The duo won four races combined, with Funk taking the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:01.42, and added a win in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 27.97. In day three of competition, he closed out his outstanding performance on the weekend with a victory in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:13.90.
Abdel-Khalik, who took an Olympic redshirt this season and will return to the pool for the Wolverines next season, won the 100-meter freestyle with a 50.91.

Longhorn Aquatics Elite Invite (June 1-3, Austin, Texas)
Connor Jaeger (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) won the 1,500-meter freestyle with a 15:16.84, besting teammate Ryan Feeley (Rye, N.Y./Rye) who clocked a 15:50.78 to take second at the Austin Elite Swim Meet. The 400-meter freestyle featured a trio of Wolverines taking first, second and third, as Matt Patton (2006-09) won the race with a 3:51.07 while Feeley (3:57.72) and Jaeger (3:52.84) took second and third.
Patton also took fourth in the 200-meter butterfly with a 2:00.12, and was followed by Dan Madwed (Stamford, Conn./Towson) in fifth with a 2:01.78. In the 100-meter butterfly, Chris Brady (2007-10) took second with a 53.25, while Madwed placed seventh (54.80).
Michael Wynalda (Wyoming, Mich./Grandville) rounded out the performances by current Wolverines with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle (1:50.63), while former Wolverines Bobby Savulich (2006-09) and Brady took fourth and fifth in the 100-meter freestyle, as Savulich posted a 50.21 to Brady's 50.35.
Former U-M volunteer assistant coach Michael Phelps earned a trio of event wins, taking the 100-meter butterfly, 400-meter individual medley, and 200-meter butterfly while placing second in the 100-meter freestyle.
Polish Olympic Trials (May 13-15, Olstyn, Poland)
Jan Konarzewski (Warsaw, Poland/LO im Andersa) took part in the Polish Olympic Trials, where his top placing came in the 200-meter freestyle, where he placed seventh in the 'A' final with a time of 2:06.26. Additionally, he placed 12th in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 58.47.
Charlotte Grand Prix (May 12-14, Charlotte, N.C.)
Connor Jaeger (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) took second in both the 800-meter freestyle (8:00.81), and the 1500-meter freestyle (15:07.39), and placed third in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:50.87 to lead all current Wolverines on the event at the 2012 Charlotte Grand Prix. Sean Ryan (Hixson, Tenn./McCallie School) took third in the 800-meter freestyle behind Jaeger, as well as fifth in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 15:25.72.
Also in action was Dan Madwed (Stamford, Conn./Towson), who took sixth in the 200-meter butterfly after touching the wall in 2:00.88 and placed eighth in the 100-meter butterfly (55.10).
Former Wolverines Davis Tarwater (2003-2006) won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 52.87, while Peter Vanderkaay (2003-2006) took the 400-meter individual medley with a 4:22.51. Charlie Houchin (2007-10) also took second in the 400-meter freestyle, which featured four current/former Wolverines (Houchin, Jaeger, Matt Patton (2006-09), and Ryan) in the top eight finishers.
In addition, former volunteer assistant Michael Phelps took second in both the 200-meter freestyle with a 1:48.01 and in the 200-meter butterfly (1:56.87).
South African National Championships (April 16-17, Durban, South Africa)
At the 2012 South African Nationals, current Wolverine sophomore Kyle Duckitt (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. John's College) and 2012 signee Dylan Bosch were in action in the 100-meter breaststroke. After placing sixth in the semifinals with a time of 1:04.01 to qualify sixth, Bosch did not swim in the finals. Duckitt took ninth in the semifinals of the race with a 1:04.44 and swam a 1:04.06 in the finals to take sixth.
Spanish National Championships (April 1-4, Madrid, Spain)
At the 2012 Spanish National Championships, brothers Miguel Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) and Bruno Ortiz (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) were in action.
Miguel Ortiz highlighted his performance with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke with a 56.55. He took seventh in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.30 and closed out his performance with a 10th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (50.73 in prelims) prior to a 51.72 finals time
Bruno Ortiz's performances were highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter freestyle with a 50.67. He took ninth in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:04.35 in the preliminaries and a time of 1:05.55 in the finals, and also swam the 200-meter freestyle, where he took 21st with a 1:54.75 in the preliminary race.
Purdue Invitational (March 29-31, West Lafayette, Ind.)
Kyle Whitaker (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) won the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:24.26 and clocked an event-best 2:01.96 in the prelims. Roman Willets (Whitehouse, Ohio/St. Francis deSales) took sixth place in the 100-meter freestyle (51.81) and the 200-meter freestyle (1:54.31).
Ryutaro Kamiya (Tokyo, Japan/St. Mary's International) took third in the 200-meter backstroke with a 2:03.77 and 10th in the 100-meter freestyle with a 52.24 in prelims prior to a 52.37 in the finals.
Indianapolis Grand Prix (March 29-31, Indianapolis, Ind.)
Ryan Feeley (Rye, N.Y./Rye) took part in the Indianapolis Grand Prix, taking seventh in the 200-meter butterfly with a 2:03.48 in the prelims. He placed ninth in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 3:53.72 and also swam the 100-meter butterfly. In addition, he collected a 35th-place finish in the 50-meter freestyle with a 23.82.
Additionally, Dane Vanderkaay (Rochester, Mich./Adams) swam in the 400-meter freestyle, taking 15th in the race with a 3:59.37. Vanderkaay also took part in the 200-meter freestyle, placing 35th with a 1:55.20.
Former Wolverines in competition included Bobby Savulich (2006-09), Chris Brady (2007-10), Tyler Clary (2008-10), Peter Vanderkaay (2003-06), Charlie Houchin (2007-10), Davis Tarvater (2003-2006), Matt Patton (2006-09) and former volunteer assistant Michael Phelps.
Canadian Olympic Trials (March 27-April 7, Montreal, Canada)
U-M had a pair of participants at the Canadian Olympic trials in Richard Funk (Edmonton, Alberta/Stratchcona), as well as junior Hassaan Abdel Khalik (Mississauga, Ontario/Silverthorn College).
Funk took second in the 100-meter breaststroke, missing out on an Olympic bid for his native Canada by .84 seconds after clocking a time of 1:01.27, and took third in the 200-meter with a 2:14.59.
Abdel-Khalik, who took an Olmypic redshirt this past season, placed third in the 200-meter freestyle with a 1:49.59 and fourth in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 51.45.
