FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) will induct its 48th Class of Honorees on Saturday, May 12, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 11-member class is headlined by former University of Michigan men's swimmer and Brazilian international Gustavo Borges.

While at Michigan, Borges was a 10-time NCAA champion (eight individual, two relay), a 24-time All-American and 20-time Big Ten champion. Swimming internationally for his native Brazil, he won four Olympic medals, two silver (100m freestyle, 1992; 200m freestyle, 1996) and two bronze (100m freestyle, 1996; 4x100m freestyle, 2000) medals. He is tied for the second-most Olympic medals by any Michigan athlete all-time and owns the most among any U-M swimmer ever. [ Michigan All-time Olympic Medalists ]

Borges holds the second-most Olympic medals of any Brazilian and the second-most Pan American Games gold medals of any Brazilian with eight.

The honor is the 19th for a University of Michigan affiliated swimmer or coach, and the first since Tom Dolan was inducted in 2006. Borges was a key member of the 1995 NCAA championship squad, as he swept the freestyle events with titles in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard races.

He currently resides in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he runs his own swimming school.
