ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's swimmers Richard Funk (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona) and Connor Jaeger (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) were named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District Five Men's At Large Team on Thursday (May 16), selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As a sophomore last season, Funk earned three NCAA All-America honors and won a Big Ten title as part of the 400-yard medley relay. He finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke and seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships while also finishing second in both races at the Big Ten Championships. He will swim the 100-meter breaststroke for Canada at the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia (July 10-17) and also at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain (July 19-Aug. 4). He is majoring in neuroscience.
Jaeger won NCAA individual titles in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle in addition to three Big Ten titles (500-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle relay). He also received four NCAA All-America honors and was named 2012-13 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year. Most recently, Jaeger won three events at last weekend's Charlotte UltraSwim and was named Michigan Male College Athlete of the Year by the Detroit Athletic Club (DAC) on Monday (May 13). He is majoring in mechanical engineering.
