COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- University of Michigan men's swimmer Ryan Feeley (Rye, N.Y./Rye) was named to Team USA's roster on Wednesday (Oct. 3) for the upcoming 2012 FINA Short Course World Championships, to be held December 12-16 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Feeley will swim the 1,500-yard freestyle and was named to the roster based on his performance at the 2012 U.S. Open last August. He won the 800-meter freestyle (8:00.55), finished fourth in the 1,500-meter freestyle (15:24.28) and placed sixth in the 400-meter freestyle (3:54.71).
Former U-M swimmer Charlie Houchin (2007-10) also made the roster. Houchin swam at the 2012 London Olympics this summer, earning a gold medal by swimming for the winning U.S. team in the preliminaries of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. He will swim the same event at the Short Course World Championships.
The event in Istanbul will be the 11th FINA Short Course World Championships, an event which has been held every two years since the inaugural championships in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, in 1993. The event in Istanbul will take place at the Sinan Erdem Dome, which is a multi-purpose indoor arena that is located on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey.
Michigan returns to the pool for a pair of meets this weekend, hosting Minnesota on Friday (Oct. 5) at 5 p.m. and the first-ever Michigan Water Carnival on Saturday (Oct. 6) at noon.
