ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior John Wojciechowski (Scottsdale, Ariz./Phoenix Brophy Prep) of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team was named Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday (Oct. 15). The senior captain helped Michigan take first place at the Dennis Stark Relays last Friday (Oct. 11) as well as secure dual-meet victories against both Notre Dame and Auburn last Saturday (Oct. 12).
At the Dennis Stark Relays, Wojciechowski swam on a pair of first-place winning relay teams, including the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:21.53) and the third (butterfly) leg of the 200-yard medley relay (1:29.33).
The following day against Notre Dame and Auburn, Wojciechowski won a pair of individual events, taking top honors in the 100-yard backstroke (48.59) and 100-yard butterfly (48.24). Additionally, he swam the backstroke on the opening leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:27.85) and also aided to a victory as part of the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:56.79).
He currently has the nation's top time in the 100-yard freestyle (44.06, set on opening leg of 400-yard freestyle relay), the fourth-fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly and seventh-fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke. U-M's 400-yard freestyle relay team and 200-yard medley relay team are also ranked No. 1 in the country.
Michigan returns to the pool next Friday (Oct. 25) for the first day of a double-dual meet against Indiana and Texas in Bloomington, Ind. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. and continue on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 10 a.m.
