The No 1-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team closes out the first half of the 2013-14 season this week, sending 24 swimmers to the U.S. Winter National Championships, to be held Thursday through Saturday (Dec. 5-7) at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn. Each of the three days will consist of preliminaries at 9 a.m. and event finals at 5 p.m. Other college teams joining Michigan at the U.S. Winter National Championships include No. 3 California, No. 9 Indiana, No. 19 Louisville and No. 22 Tennessee. Team scores will be tabulated, but the meet will not count towards its dual-meet record.

This meet serves as the midseason meet for the majority of the swimmers on the roster. With every race being swum in short-course yards (collegiate length), the purpose of the meet is to achieve NCAA automatic- or provisional-qualifying standards.

Michigan is sending a full allotment of swimmers to the U.S. Winter National Championships. Competitors include seniors Hassaan Abdel Khalik, Kyle Duckitt, Connor Jaeger, Ryutaro Kamiya, Ian Richardson, Sean Ryan, Kyle Whitaker, John Wojciechowski and Michael Wynalda, juniors Richard Funk, Justin Glanda and Bruno Ortiz, sophomores Dylan Bosch, Peter Brumm, Paul Corbae, Matt McNamara, Dan Miller, Anders Nielsen, Jeremy Raisky and Will Raynor and freshmen Jason Chen, Chris Klein, Jack Mangan and Cameron Stitt.
