ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In a match between two top 25 squads, the No. 21-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to 19th-ranked Tulsa on Wednesday night (Feb. 27) at the Varsity Tennis Center.

The Golden Hurricane claimed the doubles points and victories at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles positions to earn the victory.

The Wolverines picked up singles wins from senior Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan) and junior Barrett Franks (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys') at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions. Franks won the first singles match off the court, notching a 7-5, 6-4 decision over Tristan Jackson at the No. 5 spot to earn his sixth dual win of the season.

King, listed at No. 16 in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings, extended his winning streak to 11 matches with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Tulsa's 84th-ranked Cliff Marsland at the top of the lineup. King won 10 of the final 12 games of the match to improve to 8-0 in dual competition.

U-M dropped the doubles point for just the third time this season after losing at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Playing together for the first time during dual-match play, the 30th-ranked tandem of King and junior Alex Buzzi (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep) secured the Wolverines' lone doubles win at the No. 1 position, earning an 8-3 decision over Marsland and Alejandro Espejo.

Michigan will hit the road for spring break, traveling to Malibu, Calif., to face Pepperdine on Wednesday (March 6). The match is slated for a 1 p.m. PST start.

• With tonight's win, King moved into a tie for fifth place on U-M's all-time singles win list with his 99th career triumph, tying former Michigan standout Michael Leach (1979-82). King needs only one more victory to become only the fifth Wolverine in program history to post 100 or more career singles victories.

• King is 14-3 overall this season.He has faced ranked opponents in 11 of those 17 matches.

• King and junior Alex Buzzi teamed up for the first time during dual-match play, cruising to an 8-3 victory at the top of the doubles lineup. The tandem, ranked 30th in the latest ITA doubles rankings, went 2-1 during the fall slate.
