BATON ROUGE, La. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team claimed the doubles point and took four of six singles matches to cruise to a 5-2 victory at LSU on Sunday evening (March 17) at W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium.

The Maize and Blue earned the doubles point for the eighth time this season, jumping out to a 1-0 lead with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Senior Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan) and junior Alex Buzzi (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep) notched an 8-5 victory over Olivier Borsos and Roger Anderson at the top spot. Shortly thereafter, juniors Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Old Bethpage JFK) and Barrett Franks (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys) clinched the point, securing an 8-5 decision over Chris Simpson and Mark Bowtell.

Sophomores Michael Zhu (Princeton/N.J./Keystone National) and Alex Petrone (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs Prep) were first off the court in singles action, finishing in quick succession at the No. 5 and No. 3 positions, respectively, to put Michigan ahead 3-0. Zhu cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bowtell to tally his fifth dual win of the season. Moments later, Petrone knocked off Borsos in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to improve his dual record to 5-3 from the third singles position.

After LSU earned its first point of the match with a win at No. 2, Franks clinched the dual from the No. 4 singles position, where he earned a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over the Tigers' Tam Trinh. The win marks Franks' third dual-clinching win of the season.

With the fate of the match already decided, the Wolverines split the final two matches on the court. After dropping the first set, Buzzi won 12 of the final 17 games on his way to a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Boris Arias at No. 6. In the final match of the day, King suffered his first dual-match loss of the season, falling to Simpson in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6, at the top of the lineup.

The Wolverines will return home next weekend to host a pair of Big Ten matches at the Varsity Tennis Center. Michigan will welcome Wisconsin at noon on Saturday (March 23) before closing the weekend on Sunday (March 24) with a noon dual against Minnesota.
