BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After dropping the doubles point, the University of Michigan men's tennis team won four of six singles matches en route to a 4-3 victory at Indiana on Sunday (March 31) at the IU Tennis Center.

With the match tied, 3-3, junior Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview Old Bethpage JFK) clinched the winning point for the Wolverines with a come-from-behind win at the No. 6 singles position. Bernstein trailed Chris Essick 5-1 in the third set before catching fire from that point forward, winning the next six games to secure the match for Michigan with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision.

The Wolverines also earned singles wins from senior Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan) and juniors Barrett Franks (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys') and Alex Buzzi (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep). King, listed at No. 15 in the latest rankings, rebounded after dropping the first set to Josh MacTaggart, claiming a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position to improve to 15-1 in dual competition this season. King used a late break to gain the advantage in the third set and ended the match by winning the final three games.

Franks posted his seventh consecutive victory with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Isade Juneau at the No. 3 spot, while Buzzi improved to 4-1 in Big Ten play with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph over Daniel Bednarczyk at No. 5.

Michigan dropped a tightly contested doubles point, splitting at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, before Indiana wrapped up the point with a win at the top of the lineup. After falling at No. 2, the Wolverines' No. 3 duo of Franks and Buzzi earned an 8-6 triumph to set up the No. 1 match as the decider. U-M's 12th-ranked tandem of King and Bernstein battled neck and neck with Indiana's top duo of Juneau and Sam Monette before falling in a tiebreaker, 9-8.

The Wolverines will return home next weekend to host a pair of Big Ten duals at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M will face Illinois at noon on Saturday (April 6) before finishing the homestand with a noon matchup against Northwestern on Sunday (April 7).
