COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Senior Jason Jung (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) upset the nation's third-ranked player, but the No. 23-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 road decision to No. 3 Ohio State on Sunday (April 10) at the Stickney Tennis Center.

Ohio State seized momentum from the start, winning all three doubles matches by identical 8-2 scores to head into singles with a 1-0 lead. The Wolverines attempted to regroup in singles, but Ohio State won all three matches in the bottom half of the lineup in straight sets to clinch the match.

Despite the match being clinched, Michigan found some positives. Freshman Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview Old Bethpage JFK) and sophomore Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan) both battled their opponents to a third-set supertiebreaker, though they came out on the losing end in each. For King, it was just his third loss during dual-match play (now 16-3), while Bernstein lost for just the second time in his last six matches.

The Wolverines' only point came from their captain, Jung, who rallied in three sets to defeat Ohio State freshman Blaz Rola, ranked third in the nation by the ITA, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. It was the second time this season a Michigan opponent knocked off a top-10 player in singles, as King also accomplished the feat by defeating then-No. 6 Reid Carleton of Duke back on Feb. 26.

Michigan returns to the Varsity Tennis Center next weekend for its final home stand, hosting nationally ranked Illinois on Saturday (April 16) at noon.
