ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team extended its win streak to five consecutive matches with a 4-3 decision over Nebraska on Saturday afternoon (April 14) at the Varsity Tennis Center. U-M rallied to secure the doubles point before splitting the singles matches.

With the doubles score knotted at 1-1, sophomores Alex Buzzi (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and Barrett Franks (Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley Boys' School) clinched the initial point from the No. 2 position, overcoming a three-game deficit and four match points to defeat Andre Stenger and Robert Schultz, 9-8 (9). After immediately falling behind 3-0, the Wolverine duo broke back in the ninth game, to 4-5, and held serve to force the tiebreaker. U-M again fell behind early and trailed 6-3 before reeling off four straight points to claim its first advantage. Each team fought off a match point to work the score to 9-9, before Michigan won two in a row, ending the contest on a Buzzi forehand winner into the left alley.

The Wolverines also won on the No. 3 doubles court, where freshmen Alex Petrone (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs Prep) and Michael Zhu (Princeton, N.J./Keystone National HS) rallied from an early break to cruise past Eric Sock and Stefan Gollner, 8-4.

The doubles point proved the difference in the dual, and Buzzi, who clinched the first point, also sealed Michigan's victory two hours later with 7-6 (4), 6-3 decision against Gollner at the No. 5 singles position. The Wolverine sophomore rebounded from an early break in the first set, evening the score at 4-4 before surging ahead with strong start in the tiebreaker. He claimed an early advantage in the second and broke again with consecutive points in the final game, closing out the match on a missed forehand wide from Gollner.

Franks and junior Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan Prep) preceded Buzzi in victory with straight-set decisions at No. 4 and No. 1, respectively. Franks took advantage of a pair of early breaks to roll past Robert Schultz, 6-1, 6-1, for his third consecutive singles win, while eighth-ranked King extended his win streak to 12 in a row with a 6-3, 6-1 decision against No. 70 Christopher Aumueller. King boasts a 12-6 record against ranked opponents this season.
