LOS ANGELES. Calif. -- Despite winning the doubles point and earning a singles victory from senior Alex Buzzi (Key Biscayne, Fla./Gulliver Prep), the University of Michigan men's tennis team fell to 28th-ranked Oklahoma State, 4-2, in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday (May 10) at Marks Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern California.

The Maize and Blue earned the first point of the day with doubles victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. After the Michigan tandem of senior Shaun Bernstein (Plainview, N.Y./Old Bethpage JFK HS) and freshman Kevin Wong (Hong Kong/Diocesa) tallied an 8-5 victory over Lucas Gerch and Sebastian Sachs at the No. 2 spot, the U-M tandem of juniors Alex Petrone (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs Prep) and Michael Zhu (Princeton, N.J./Keystone National) clinched the point, winning the final five games en route to an 8-5 victory over the Oklahoma State pairing of Brady Bohrnstedt and Chris Haworth.

Oklahoma State answered by winning four of the first five singles matches off the court to capture the 4-2 victory. After the Cowboys registered their first point of the match with a victory at the No. 2 singles position, Arjun Kadhe gave Oklahoma State a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 triumph over senior/junior Justin Rossi (Novi, Mich./Laurel Springs Prep) at the No. 3 position.

Buzzi tied the dual, 2-2, with a come-from-behind victory over Bohrnstedt (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) at the No. 5 position, but moments later OSU's Nicolai Ferringo defeated Wong, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the No 6 spot to give the Cowboys a 3-2 advantage.

Shortly thereafter, Gerch clinched the dual-match victory for Oklahoma State with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over junior Vlad Stefan (Bucharest, Romania) at the No. 4 position.

With the loss, Michigan's season comes to a close with a 16-13 overall record.
