FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Sophomore Vlad Stefan (Bucharest, Romania) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 32-player main draw Friday (Nov. 9) at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Stefan, ranked 53rd in the country, lost to second-ranked Jarmere Jenkins (Virginia), 6-3, 6-3, to conclude play at the prestigious national tournament. He won his opening match in the main draw on Thursday (Nov. 8), earning a 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 win over No. 65 Enej Bonin of Denver.

Stefan was the last player to compete in a fall event for U-M. The Wolverines return to action following the New Year, heading to the Key Biscayne Individuals Jan. 6-8 in Key Biscayne, Fla. Michigan opens its dual-match season on Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Wolverines host TCU at 6 p.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
