ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Evan King (Chicago, Ill./Kaplan Prep) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team has been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Senior of the Year, the organization announced on Wednesday (May 15).
King, the 2013 Big Ten Athlete of the Year award recipient, finished the regular season with a 29-4 singles record from the No. 1 singles position, including a 23-4 mark in dual matches and a perfect 10-0 record in Big Ten play.
King, who owns the U-M program record for most combined career singles and doubles wins (192), has won 24 of his last 25 matches and currently has a 12-match win streak heading into the NCAA Men's Tennis Individual Championships.
A unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection, King earned the No. 11 seed for the NCAA singles competition to guarantee himself ITA All-America status for the third time in his career. The 64-player tournament will take place May 22-27 at the University of Illinois' Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill.
