Wolverines to Face Mississippi in 2014 ITA Kick-Off Opener

SKILLMAN, N.J. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team was selected to participate in the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend, the organization announced on Thursday (June 6). The Wolverines will travel to Oxford, Miss., to play at the University of Mississippi Jan. 25-26.

Joining No. 1 seed Mississippi and No. 4 seed Michigan will be No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Illinois. The No. 1 team at each site will face the No. 4 team, with the No. 2 team squaring off against the No. 3 team. Two matches are guaranteed, as the winners and losers of both matches will play the following day. The 15 schools that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, Feb. 14-17, at the Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M University.

The Wolverines last headed to the National Team Indoor Championships in 2009, defeating California and Virginia Commonwealth to qualify.

The Wolverines finished up the 2012-13 season with a 16-10 record, including a 9-2 mark in Big Ten play, and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship match for the first time in program history.
